Look and See. However the visual aspects of wine is the least important property.
Color
Young reds are bright purple and move to brick red and brown tones as the age.
Sheen
A bright sheen is asign of a good wine and a dull sheen of a mass produced wine.
Turbidity
Is the wine transparent, opaque or does it have stuff in it.
